Pediatric First Aid Workshop

This interactive first aid instruction workshop uses PedFACTs (Pediatric First Aid for Caregivers and Teachers) a manual developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Upon successful completion, participants receive a card. The workshop content includes management of common injuries as well as care for life-threatening conditions such as a blocked airway.  Soon there will be both a 4 hour in-person version and an online/ 1.5 to 2 hour in-person hybrid version available.

In the hybrid version, participants purchase a PedFACTs book from the American Academy of Pediatrics or Jones and Bartlett, the book publisher. The book includes an access code that allows the user to complete the online portion of the course content and receive documentation of completion of that portion of the course. This documentation can be used to arrange to take the hands-on portion of the course from an AAP authorized PedFACTs instructor following the instructions provided by the AAP PedFACTs staff. Alternately, it can be used to arrange to take the hands-on-portion from an instructor recognized by the PA AAP-ECELS.  Participants practice one person infant/child CPR with manikins.  The topics covered meet the national standards for what early learning and child care providers should know about recognition and first response to an injury or pediatric medical emergency in a child care setting and the PA child care regulatory requirement.  Maximum of 18 participants per workshop. ECELS arranges workshops on a fee-for-service basis. The fee is due when an ECELS staff member confirms that the workshop can be arranged.
